The Molli Cafe has won the hearts and stomachs of everyone who lives in the West End as well as some major food journalists since I made my first visit last year. Originally I came here to try their taco entry in Vancouver Foodster’s Best Taco Challenge where I was a Media Judge. For that visit, I was all about the tacos, but I saw these delicious looking sandwiches coming out of the kitchen, so I added them to my list of Must Eats (it’s a pretty long list).

First up is the Milanesa Torta with breaded beef, Havarti cheese, avocado, tomato, pickled jalapeno, and onion. I’ve had this type of breaded beef sandwich before at another restaurant, and it wasn’t a good experience, this was a world away from that! The beef was tender, and the breading wasn’t too thick, so the beef was the star of the sandwich. To add some creaminess the Harvarti cheese and avocado came in perfectly and the jalapeno and onion help things from getting too rich and added some crunch.

Next up is the Cochinita Pibil Torta. The cochinita pibil torta was definitely a more hearty torta that is stuffed with marinated pulled pork, refried beans, cabbage, pickled onions, and avocado. The pulled pork was very juicy, and I would recommend having a ton of napkins on-hand. The sandwich overall ate on the heavier side with the pulled pork and refried beans. The bread for both of my tortas was crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and did a fantastic job of absorbing the juice from the meat.

The Molli Cafe is one of those places you have to visit, the food is thoughtfully prepared, flavors are robust, and the eats are authentic. You can’t go wrong with pretty much anything on the menu, from the tacos to the tortas everything I’ve eaten has been spot on and delicious.
